Blessed with a mild climate and abundant water resources, Ibaraki Prefecture has been a flourishing rice production region for a long time. Ibaraki is now the number one rice producer in the Kanto region and its delicious rice is a product of its long history and warm climate. The rice varieties exported from Ibaraki Prefecture are: Koshihikari, a perfect rice variety in terms of shininess, texture, and stickiness; Fukumaru, Ibaraki Prefecture's original rice variety; and Hoshijiru, a new variety of rice with similar taste to Koshihikari.
